Which Decorating Style Is Right For Your Special Space

Lately,  I have been obsessed with refreshing and organizing my office space. I am usually good at knowing what I want to do with a space right away. But this room is a challenge because it will and has serve(d) several purposes. Before it became my office space it was my granddaughter’s vacation spot. This is where she would come on weekends when she wanted to lounge, watch TV, and not have to do her chores at home. I loved providing that space/get-away for her. After-all, isn’t that what grandmothers do? She is now 17 and rarely uses the space anymore. She will graduate high school and be off to college in 2018 and I am guessing and preparing myself for the fact that she will find much more interesting getaways. And although the daybed remains for now, in what is currently my office space, it is rarely used. I am left to determine a decorating style for this space as well as determine whether to keep the bed or to let it go and just take the step of making this MY space.  What a novel idea. 🙂

My grandson, who is 4, refuses to sleep in the room at this point and still enjoys cuddling up with me and hubs in the king sized bed in our room. But oh my, what a rough sleeper…even in a king-sized bed! But I am not rushing the separation. 🙂 But when he does, there is another guest room. I haven’t a clue why it is so difficult for me to remove the day bed and use that wonderful real estate for the craft table I so desire. Yet it is.

To help me decide to move the daybed and to use my office/crafting room as it should be used, I am looking at some beautiful office spaces online. Some are not my style but they are none-the-less BEAUTIFUL.  Maybe some of you are dreaming of a beautiful office/crafting space and if so, perhaps some of these designs will help you as well. Let’s get started.

The Nook from Home Bunch

This nook from Home Bunch is not the type of space I’m working with, but I thought it was gorgeous. I love the farmhouse style. The tiled wall with the rustic shelves is simply beautiful. And they managed to include a bit of storage as well.

Office Decor
Decor Pad

This office from Décor Pad is classic. It features killer built-ins. I would love to face a window while working. Especially on rainy or snowy (very few here) days but it could be distracting. I love inclement weather. 🙂 The large apple is a nice touch don’t you think?

Office Decor
Home Designing

This look from Home-Designing.Com is perfect. Large, open and in my favorite black and white. I love the accents of green.

Office Decor
36th Avenue

I love this home office from The 36th Avenue. In my opinion, this is the absolute perfect desk. My desk is over-sized because it is a DIY desk made from 2 filing cabinets and a door. I’m thinking that if I downsize my desk, the room would be more spacious. Of course, I would need the extra work space of a table of the built-in shelf along the wall where the daybed is located now to use as a craft table. But I love love this office.

Office Decor
Interior God

This office was designed for me. I just know it was. When Interior God, put this design together, s/he had me in mind. The floors are gorgeous. There is ample desktop space to both work on craft projects and to use for business.  The white cabinets paired with the woodgrain are really pretty. I would have to protect the desk and craft space with Plexi however. And all that storage space is just what I need. I will take it!

Office Decore
Town Lifestyle & Design

Finally, this design by Town Lifestyle + Design showcases a huge table that could serve as both the desk and worktable. Also, all of that storage behind the desk is awesome. I love this look.

I generally pull pictures when I am undecided about a space. Not to copy any particular design but rather to see what style of color I may be leaning toward, and it is so apparent in this case. When I look back over the designs I have chosen they are mostly farmhouse, casual and eclectic and the colors are soft with pops of color.  That tells me that whether I decide to keep the daybed, which is where this all began or get rid of it, I have a definite style in mind. I go through style phases and right now It appears that I am drawn to the farmhouse style. What do you think? Do you see that too?

What style phase are you connecting with right now?

Clearissa, how I envy you. I would love to give my home office a makeover, and had that very thing in mind, when the entire home maintenance budget was blown by the need for a new roof. Oh well … next year … But you have fun with this. And DO lose the daybed!

  2. Clearissa Coward says:

Hi Jean, I totally understand how unexpected things can get in the way of our plans. I’m sorry about your roof, but keep gathering ideas and planning and that will keep the excitement for the project going. Thanks for the advice about the daybed. I am leaning that way. Because keeping it means I’m decorating my home for others and I am always advising my clients not to do that very thing. 🙂 Take care and do stop by again. Remember keep planning.

Hi Debbie, I love the process and I am never married to just one style. I love mixing a little of this and a little of that to make it my own. Thank you for reading along. 🙂 I love it when you stop by.

Hi Clearissa, I love all of your ideas. My office is dark and gloomy unfortunately, and as we will be moving I suppose it is too late to change it. In our new home we have an office area off the living room which is light and airy so you have given me some fresh ideas. Thanks and have great day!

Hi Sue. Thank you. How exciting to be moving into a new house. There are so many possibilities when everything is fresh and new. I would love it if you shared pictures of your new office space once it’s all done and thank you for reading taking the time to leave a comment. 🙂

They are all nice but I like the one from Town Lifestyle & Design the best. Love that big table and all those shelves. Thanks Clearissa from Grammy Dee, #WednesdayAIM #LinkUp #BlogParty, social media shared.

I don’t have an office, but a barn, so anything goes in there. It is a work in progress but fun to work on. Not sure of my style yet. I love to have my grand kids in bed with me too. Can you believe that they are 11 and 8. I am dreading the day when they no longer want to do it.
    Enjoy,
    Bev

Oh Beverly, how I envy you. You have an entire barn for your crafts and work!! The things I could do with an entire barn!!!! Enjoy it and please stop by again. And if and when you are ready to choose a design style for your barn, please let me know. I would love to see it come together. 🙂

Love the second one with the pink mat and the white and yellow. I have never created a space as perfect as any of these but I do love looking at what people do to make an office so special.

  10. Clearissa Coward says:

Hi Leanne. I’m glad you liked them. I am currently in a delimma as to whether to get rid of the daybed in my office. I want it gone because I need the space, but I want my grands to be comfortable when they’re here. I have another guest room but my granddaughter says it’s too fancy (she doesn’t want to have to make the bed and put all the pillows back. 🙂 And I understand that. When they are here I want them to relax, but I need this space. lol I am debating with myself. lol So happy you stopped by.
