July 27 – July 31, 2015

Another week has passed and I although I have been missing in action, I do have a week at a glance. I did not produce my usual 3+ posts this past week due to illness (pneumonia can wipe you out) but I do have a couple.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience while I continue to recuperate from my bout with pneumonia and catch up. But in the meantime, please enjoy my posts for the week. So let’s get started for this past week, July 27 – July 31, 2015.

Making a College Dorm Room Feel Like Home on a Budget

Posted on July 27, 2015

custom-room-décor-ideas-new-in-concept-galleryIt is time to get your college student(s) prepared for the upcoming school year. Whether you are dropping off a college freshman for the first time or returning your college junior back to the dorm, it’s time to get them organized and prepared for a successful school year.

To do so, I thought I would make a list for you to help you remember the essentials and the fun and homey touches to help your college student feel at home away from home. When I was getting my daughter ready for college I would always make a list in June and I would order the items on my list throughout the summer. This allowed me to first be ahead of the game, and secondly to snatch up some pretty good bargains and lastly to spread out my purchasing dollar. When you’re on a budget, it’s easier to spread those dollars out instead of dropping a whopping $500.00 or more all at once. Chalk Paint Meets My Little Foot Stool

Posted on July 28, 2015

Little table 009 PM  I tried chalk paint on furniture for the first time this week and I think I’m hooked. I didn’t invest in the expensive Annie Sloan brand. I didn’t want to make such an investment until I determined if I really liked using chalk paint, and I do.

All of the chalk paint experts advised that I would not need to prime when using chalk paint, but because it was my first time, I was afraid not to. So I did. The paint does go on a lot thicker and adheres very differently than regular latex paint. Next time I may try to use it without the primer to see if it will cover as well.
