Decorating With Black – The New Neutral
Using black as a neutral in decorating can be a bold and sophisticated choice that adds depth and drama to your space. I have adopted a love for using black in my decor aesthetic. It took me a minute to adapt but since I’ve included black in my decor style, I have learned to love it. Below I am sharing tips for incorporating black into your decor.

Although decorating with black can be beautiful, you do not want your home to become a dark cave (unless that is the look you are going for). To avoid the cave look, you need to balance with Lighter Colors. Offset the darkness of black with lighter hues such as white, cream, or soft pastels. This balance creates contrast and prevents the space from feeling too heavy.
Texture Variation is also important when using black as your base color. You can incorporate different textures to add visual interest and dimension to the space. Consider materials like velvet, leather, metal, wood, or natural fibers to create a tactile contrast against the black backdrop.

When using black you should Introduce black through accent pieces such as throw pillows, rugs, curtains, or artwork. These smaller touches can add a pop of color and tie the room together without overwhelming the space.
