How To Clean Your Home After The Christmas Holiday

Cleaning your home after the Christmas holiday can feel like a big task, but breaking it down into manageable steps can make the process easier. Here’s a guide to help you get started and get your home all warm and cozy for the upcoming winter season. How To Clean Your Home After The Christmas Holiday.

How To Clean Your Home After The Christmas Holiday

  1. Take Down Decorations
  • Ornaments and Lights: Remove ornaments and lights carefully from the tree. Wrap lights neatly to avoid tangling next year. I like to store ornaments by color. For example, red and white ornaments are in one bin while gold and silver are in another. I divide the container with thick cardboard cut to fit.
  • Pack Decorations: Use labeled bins for storing ornaments, wreaths, and other decorations. Use bubble wrap for fragile items.
  • Tree Removal: For real trees, check your local recycling guidelines. Artificial trees should be stored in their original box or a designated tree bag.
  1. Declutter Holiday-Related Items
  • Gift Wrap: Recycle wrapping paper and boxes. Save ribbons and reusable bags for next year.
  • Unwanted Gifts: Donate or regift items you won’t use.
  • Expired or Leftover Food: Discard anything past its prime. Organize your pantry and fridge to make room for fresh groceries.
  • Unused Ornaments and/or Decorations: While putting your ornaments away, this is a great time to purge those ornaments that no longer bring you joy or is not your style any longer.

  1. Deep Clean the Living Spaces
  • Vacuum and Dust: Focus on areas where decorations were placed and under the tree. Pine needles and glitter tend to get everywhere! Oh, the glitter! Vacuum your couches and chairs because I don’t know how it gets there but don’t forget to vacuum under the chair cushions because glitter gets there as well.
  • Spot Clean: Check for any spills or stains from holiday celebrations and clean them promptly.
  • Furniture Reset: Rearrange furniture back to its original layout after moving it for the tree or holiday gatherings.
