Organizing A Pantry -Let’s Go

A Cozy Lifestyle with Clearissa Coward

When you hear someone say that they are organizing their closet, usually visions of clothing piles come to mind. But, there are many other types of closets that can use some organizational TLC. One of them is the pantry closet, we all have good intentions when we purchase food to eat it, unfortunately, this always doesn’t happen. Do not allow those open, half-eaten boxes of Cream of Wheat stay in there forever taking up space – throw them out!  Cereal does get stale you know.

A lot of the same tips I share for organizing a bedroom closet applies to organizing a pantry closet as well. If you are not eating it, if it is expired  – do not keep it. Also, always, always group like items together. In addition, keep only food items or related paper products such as napkins in the pantry. Keep appliances, pots and pans, and cleaning products in separate locations that is unless you are blessed to have one of those pantries that is the size of a bedroom. If you have a normal size pantry, do not use it for miscellaneous items. It will only confuse everything.

This is very important, so I will mention it again, when you are sorting through the contents, keep an eye on expiration dates and toss out anything that is past its prime. The same goes for open boxes of food that no one likes. If you have unopened food items that are not expired and your family is not going to eat, but you know are perfectly fine, donate them to the local food bank or pass them on to a neighbor.

Make use of all the space you can. If you find that you are tight on space, consider hanging wire baskets or shelving on the back of the door to increase your storage space. Browse your dollar stores and storage departments in other stores to get additional ideas on ways to maximize your pantry space while making everything easily accessible to the entire family. If the food you buy comes in bulky, hard to store containers buy plastic storage bins that make it easier to get the food and store it. Cereal and pasta are both great examples to use plastic storage bins for. And don’t forget my favorite part…labeling. Labeling helps the rest of the family to know where things should be replaced when they move something and it helps your family to be a bit more independent because they can find things without rummages and messing up your system. It’s a win-win.

So, I am going to make myself vulnerable here and show you my pantry in its current state. 😆 It is my plan to refresh/reorganize my own pantry this weekend but I am going to show you what it looks like now to give you an idea of where I am starting and to let you know that you are not alone in your disorganization. We all have our spaces that could use a little help and this is one of mine. 😉 No judgment!! Remember this is a no-conflict zone. 🙂  Be sure to check out my YouTube channel next week to see the finished project.

Thank you guys for all of the support you show to me and my blog. I feel so blessed because of you.
