Unshakable – Staying Steady in a Shakey World

Let’s face it—these days, it can feel like negativity is everywhere. From the news headlines to social media, workplace drama to daily frustrations, it’s easy to get weighed down. The world can seem loud, angry, divisive, and downright exhausting.

But here’s the truth: You don’t have to absorb everything you’re exposed to. You can protect your peace, protect your mindset, and move forward with clarity—even in the midst of chaos.

In this article, I am sharing tips to maneuver in a negative world without losing yourself in it. Unshakable – Staying Steady in a Shakey World

  1. Be Mindful of What You Consume

Negativity often comes disguised as “just staying informed.” But if the content you’re taking in leaves you feeling anxious, angry, or helpless every time—it’s time to step back. Curate your feed. Take news breaks. Limit your screen time. Your mind and spirit need room to breathe. I have had to limit my news to twice a day. I have given up noonday news and online news websites. It has helped tremendously.

“Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23

  1. Set Energetic Boundaries

Not every conversation deserves your energy. Not every complaint needs your response. And not every person is meant to have access to your inner peace. It’s okay to say, “I don’t have the capacity for this right now.” Boundaries aren’t selfish—they’re essential. Althoigh it is not easy, my husband and I find other things to discuss over dinner instead of what was on the news. My friends and I work to do the same thing. I even have one friend who has taken up line dancing to dance her way into a positive space.

  1. Focus on What’s Within Your Control

There will always be things happening in the world that you can’t fix. But what you can control is your attitude, your actions, and how you choose to show up. Don’t underestimate the power of small, positive decisions. They ripple out more than you know. Do what you can and leave the rest for someone else or until you can do something to bring about a change.

  1. Create Pockets of Light

Be intentional about injecting goodness into your day. Spend time with a morning devotional. Listen to uplifting music. Call someone who makes you laugh. Journal things you’re grateful for. Volunteer. Speak encouragement. Be kind to someone, it will make you both feel better. Even when the world feels dark, you can be a light.

  1. Surround Yourself with Life-Givers

Spend time with people who inspire you, support you, and challenge you in the best ways. Choose friendships that fuel your spirit, not drain it. And when you find your people—hold onto them tightly.

  1. Practice Stillness

In a noisy world, stillness becomes a radical act of self-care. Whether it’s meditation, prayer, deep breathing, or simply sitting quietly with your thoughts—give yourself space to reconnect with who you are beneath the noise.

  1. Lead with Love

Kindness is a strength. Compassion is a choice. In the face of negativity, the most powerful response is often not retaliation, but love. Stay soft. Stay open. And never let the world make you hard.

Finally

We were not created to carry the weight of the world—but we can walk through it with intention. The world may not always change around you, but you can choose how you navigate it. You can be peaceful in the middle of pressure. You can be light in the middle of darkness.

Stay grounded. Stay hopeful. And most importantly—stay you.
