Closet Problems & Solutions
A Cozy Lifestyle with Clearissa Coward
A messy closet is a problem a lot of us have and some of us are not sure how to fix it. The messiness can come in many different forms but the root cause is a lack of organization. If you start out organized it is much easier to stay that way. Here are a few common closet problems and some solutions that can be implemented at any time.

Are your hangers a tangled mess or do your clothes constantly slip off? Are your hangars turned in all different directions? Sounds like you have wire hangers hanging in your closet. Or at least a hangar issue. To prevent tops from slipping off and falling to the floor or the dreaded hanger crease in the middle of your pant leg, invest in some wooden, plastic hangers, or velvet hangars. Not only are they functional, but they are also more attractive and a uniform type of hanger in your closet (all wire hangers do not count) will be much more attractive and is a great place to start.
I prefer velvet hangars. They do not take up as much space as others and they do not allow blouses to slip and most importantly, they come in different colors which means you can actually color coordinate your hangars. Going too far? Of course not. 😆 Okay everyone may not feel the need to have matching hangars, if you do, and I will admit I do, you can. We have options.
For heavier coats and men’s suits, I find the wooden hangers work best. But otherwise I love the felt hangars.
Shoe Organization
If you are consistently looking for a mate to the pair of shoes you want to wear you need to put a system in place to organize your shoes. There are many options for shoe organizing, you can purchase a hanging canvas shoe rack that goes on your hanging bar, a shoe tree, or install some shelving in the bottom part of your closet. This is a quick and easy job, something that can be accomplished in under 2 hours (set-up and organization).
Another option that I’ve had in place for many years, is to hang curtain rods on the wall. This option works only for heals. If you would like to see this option in action, check out my closet organization video.
Shelves
Do not forget the real estate above your clothes. Closet shelving is prime real estate. It is a great space for folded sweaters or excess shoes. Just be sure to keep it neat and organized.
Chances are there are many things you can remove from the closet that does not belong. Put your spare blankets in a linen closet or under the bed (use under the bed storage), and take the clothes you have been meaning to drop off at the donation bin out to the car so you will not forget to do it another day. Find the proper home for whatever else is living in your closet that should not be and make your closet space the organized space you have always desired.
