Seven Benefits of Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning

It’s that wonderful time of year again. Spring is on the horizon and most folks are itching to do some Spring Cleaning and home refreshing before they head outside to enjoy the lazy days of summer. I know I am. I want everything inside to be in order and cleaned out, under and around so that I can enjoy my summer days without worrying about dust bunnies and cobwebs and unorganized junk drawers. I know that you feel the same excitement that I feel.  Ah come on, you do…right?

Funny, we or I (I will only speak for me, but I know some of you are right there with me – wink, wink) seem to enjoy cleaning before three of the four seasons. Think about it, spring cleaning, cleaning before you settle in for winter, and cleaning before the beautiful fall season. Okay, I don’t do much cleaning between spring and summer. I admit that. I mean why should I when we spend most of our time outside cleaning up the yard and outdoor spaces…right? But I get that feeling at the beginning of the other three seasons.  😉

Spring Cleaning

I will admit that with all the cleaning and refreshing that I do, cleaning and refreshing for spring is my absolute favorite. Spring simply makes me feel like new and fresh beginnings are inevitable. Just like the beginning of a new year, spring makes me long for a do-over. Fresh beginnings…that’s what it is all about. Spring is all about refreshing.

Whether you have a large or small space, I am betting it can use a thorough spring refresh and update. There are many benefits of cleaning and refreshing a home for spring and I am going to share seven of those benefits with you below.

  1. Happiness

Having a clean home is one of “THE” best feelings ever. A cluttered, messy environment can wreak havoc on one’s emotional and psychic well-being. Being able to come home every day to a space that is tidy and organized is a great gift you can give to yourself and when you do, you will also give yourself happiness.

  1. Stress Relief

Waking up to disorder every single morning can actually affect one’s productivity and some even say that a messy bedroom affects a couple’s love life. Now, who wants that? Facing piles of clothing, and cluttered dressers and table tops is a horrible way to end or to begin a day. We can all agree that living in an untidy environment can cause a great amount of unnecessary stress. Spring cleaning will ensure that your home feels peaceful, rather than chaotic and uncomfortable.

Spring Cleaning

  1. Pride

No one wants to invite friends over to a home that appears unkept. It is embarrassing when your home is in disarray, and someone calls out of the blue and asks to drop by. When your home has been through a detailed spring cleaning, you will feel proud to have friends and family visit. Inviting guests over will be a pleasure for you, and for them as well.

4. Time

Time is another benefit of spring cleaning. When you have to dig through a pile of clothing to find one item, or search for the keys or shoes you loose on a consistent basis, that means you have clutter problems that need to be addressed.  Seasonal cleaning allows one to sort through everything he/she owns periodically and hopefully gives each item a place to live.

  1. Organization

When you are organized, life runs smoother. If your home is orderly, both you and your family will feel the difference. It will be easier to go about your daily activities.  Your life will feel lighter and as everyone keeps harping, your stress level will definitely lessen.

  1. Health

Spring cleaning is a great workout. It may be surprising to some, but both light and heavy housework give your body a boost. You may be surprised at what a sweat you work up while getting your home into tip-top shape. You can be sure to move your muscles, stimulate your lymphatic system, and even get a bit of cardio in while organizing items and scrubbing walls and trekking up and down stairs. And if you add your favorite music, you can even get a few dance steps in too.

  1. Generosity to Others

One of spring cleaning’s outcomes is finding things that we realize we no longer need. This is a great time to bless someone else with the things we have no use for. When you have sorted through clothing that no longer fit, appliances you no longer use, and books that your children have outgrown, you have a choice of what you will do with it all. Consider donating to a charity or someone in need. The feeling of satisfaction will be worth all the time and effort put into it.

Spring Cleaning

There are many benefits to spring cleaning, and these are just a few. Consider all the bonuses that this seasonal ritual will bring you. Keep yourself going through the hard work with the thoughts of everything you will gain. And remember to put some music on while you clean and get your dance on. It’s a win-win! Happy cleaning.

    Hi Candy,

Thank you so much for stopping in. Spring cleaning makes me feel the same way. It is even better to me than new year cleaning. Something fresh and inviting about it all.

I have to wait until after the heating season is over otherwise I’m wasting my time. We heat with wood, and the smoke lands on everything! Once I’m sure we are done with the wood and ashes, I will give the house a very deep cleaning.

I’ve recently moved from a house to a one bedroom unit so have been getting rid of many items and furniture. I’ve read a lot of your organisational strategies and I’m finally getting there. My problem was organising my drawers, which I have started doing. Now I can find things much more easily and it makes life much less stressful as you said in your article. So thank you for that!

Linda, you make me feel so good. I am so glad my articles are useful to you. I did every drawer in my home at the beginning of the year. I did a vlogg on YouTube showing the process and progression. It is an amazing feeling. Good luck with your purging and organizing. 🙂

Part of my spring cleaning definitely includes opening the windows and letting some fresh air in. Then, I also clean the window sills, which catch so much dirt over the year. I haven’t started my spring cleaning yet. I think I’m waiting for a sunny day so I’ll actually feel like it is nearly spring!

I love spring cleaning and these are great ideas! I am decluttering like crazy so this helps. I am doing a rug pad giveaway any size tomorrow on my blog. I needed a new rug pad because I threw out The old one because it was yucky! The giveaway is super easy so you have a good chance if you need a rug pad.

Hi Jean, I know what you mean. I am cleaning the inside of the house, but we have predictions of more snow on Wednesday so I haven’t opened my windows yet because it is still cold outside. Can’t wait for those days. 🙂

If the weather would just break and give us some sunshine I would be all over spring cleaning. lol We have had a lot of cold dreary days here in Columbus Oh and it is hard to get in the mood. Maybe this week though we are due possibly 2 inches of snow tonight.

A snowy or rainy day is the perfect day to spring clean. It will take your mind off of the bad weather and put you in a much lighter mood. 🙂 The day I completed my spring refresh downstairs, it was 38 degrees outside (that was the high I believe), but I still put my spring wreath on the front door. Surprisingly enough, my neighbors soon follow suit. 🙂 Good luck with all that cold weather. It will be over soon.

What a lovely post! And how nicely you worded a big job and its benefits. Thank you Clearissa. As a home ec grad (I have an obsolete degree – A Bachelor of Science in Home Economics)I know the value of what you’ve written. Have a great day.

  14. Clearissa Coward says:

Thank you Diana. Your degree is not obsolete at all. You were forward thinking because today, there are many people who need your expertise. Whether they know it or not. 🙂 Thank you for stopping in and I hope you will come back again.
