Refresh On A Budget – Spring Kitchen

From The Desk of Clearissa Coward’s Command Center via Divinely Organized

It’s the middle of March, we have sprung our clocks forward and yet, the temperatures are still in winter mode. Cold or not, I am in the mood for a little spring time, at least inside. And although I may be jumping the gun, I just could not stand it any longer. Besides, I figured if I spring clean and refresh while the temperatures are still cold out, I will be ahead of the game and ready to hit the outside as soon as the temperature is above 60.  So I have begun my spring and summer cleaning and refresh.

I have shared my spice cabinet refresh and my laundry closet refresh – now we move into a kitchen refresh. There wasn’t a whole lot to do, but the kitchen felt heavy and wintery to me. We gave the kitchen a soft remodel a little over a year ago. I had my cabinets painted, added new counter tops, and new flooring. So this year I just needed to add a little color, spring fragrance and change the fall and winter vignettes to lighter, brighter spring and summer ones.

I painted the bottoms of two fish bowls I use to house my utensils on the countertop. These were simple gold fish bowls…new of course, 🙂 and I painted the bottoms using acrylic paint. They have sat on my counter for a couple of years and the added paint was just what they needed to liven up the counter.

I corralled all of the normal counter stuff into trays. By using the trays, I am able to organize my countertops as well as make them look attractive. I found one of the trays at Tuesday Morning and the other two I already had.

For added color, I added little bottles with yellow spring flowers around the kitchen. The flowers are not real but they are good quality and add just enough color on each counter. They will do until my garden starts to bloom and I can have the real thing. I also switched out my dishtowels from green to yellow and added a couple of yellow potholders and kitchen gloves.

Finally, I traded my green candles with yellow ones that have a light honeysuckle fragrance. I think I have just enough yellow to add the pop of color I needed. The kitchen has a little spring fever and this look can carry me through the summer as well. The nice thing is that when I open my laundry closet…everything matches. The wall color in the laundry closet is the same as the color of the flowers, dish towels, and other accessories. That really makes my life good. I could almost break out into song…spring is in the house. 🙂

By the way, this refresh cost approximately $40.00 for the candles,  dish towels, pot holders one tray, and flowers. Everything else was already in the house. Not bad huh?
