A Cozy Lifestyle with Clearissa Coward

Cleaning

Deep cleaning is a rite of passage. It can be therapuetic and it is definitely rehabilitating. That is, if we go at in the right frame of mine. Each year at the beginning of the year, the new year new beginning, or when the weather begins to warm during the spring into spring time of year, whSo today I want to share seven benefits of deep cleaning, with an emphasis on spring cleaning.en the sun shines just a little bit longer most of us feel the need to get our affairs, homes, and lives in order.

Deep cleaning is like the price we pay for the changing seasons. During the spring, the furnace gets turned off and the windows are opened. Flowers begin to peek through the ground. Birds chirp happily. And people begin to clean out the dust and debris left behind from the long winter months.

Deep/Spring cleaning offers a number of benefits for your physical health and emotional wellbeing. The seven benefits of deep cleaning that we discuss today will be simple to some but will touch on both the health benefits and the emotional benefits.

1. Cleaning your home is not fun for many, although I ejnjoy it, but once it is done, the feeling is over-the-top gratifying. There is nothing better than having a home that is free from all the dust and clutter of the winter months. Like New Year’s Day or a birthday, it is an opportunity to start fresh. Spring cleaning releases the confines of winter when we are mostly stuck inside with windows and doors closed. Spring cleaning is like a rebirth and disposing of clutter and clearing out the dust and cobwebs, washing windows, etc., makes you feel attached to your space once again. It is like the first time you walked into your place and decided it would become your home. It is new again.

2. Organizing and cleaning is an opportunity to put things where they belong. Once you decluter and reorgnize your space, you no longer have to wonder where you last saw the phillips screwdriver or where did you put your favorite slippers. Once you have deep cleaned, you will know where everything is. When you go through each room, space, nook and cranny of your home you are able to take an inventory. You are able to put things where they belong. You are able to get rid of the things you no longer use. You can add space, light, and organization to your home. In fact, do not be surprised if you find things you had forgotten about or thought you had lost.

3. What about your health? Well, deep cleaning definitely has health benefits. Once you deep clean the bathroom, it will be free from mold, mildew, dust and bugs (I am assuming the bugs were in the window sill between the storm window and the screen). 🙂 When the windows are closed all winter, your home does not have the opportunity to breathe. Many scientists and environmental experts will tell you that the pollution inside your home is often much worse than outdoor air pollution. When you take the time to clean your home of mildew, dust, bugs and mold you’re improving your health in a major way.

4. When you deep clean, you can also improve the health of your family and your pets. And if you use environmentally friendly cleaners then you are not filling your home with more toxins. You would be amazed at the cleaning power of white vinegar and baking soda. But if you are interested, check out the post I wrote on the many uses of vinegar. The post will provides tips for using natural cleaners, mainly vinegar, to clean and disinfect your home. You can find it here https://clearissacoward.com/10-green-household-white-vinegar/. So open those windows and enjoy some good old fashioned spring cleaning. You are not only letting fresh air in, you are also letting toxins out.

5. One of my favorite reasons for deep or spring cleaning is to get rid of clutter. Clutter is stressful! Know this! It collects and gathers dust. It prevents you from being relaxed and productive. Spring cleaning helps you eliminate the clutter. You are able to get rid of what you no longer need and focus your time, energy and attention on the items that matter. It is mind-blowing as to how much clutter can affect one emotionally. You don’t believe me, well clear out a space in your home. It does not have to be a large space, maybe a coat closet. Get rid of all the coats you and your family no longer need. Donate them, if in good shape, and bless someone else with them. Clean the closet. Perhaps invest in a pack or two of matching hangers. Clear any floor and shelf clutter and just see how much better you feel afterwards. It really works.

6. Your appliances will last longer if you include cleaning them in your deep cleaning process. Deep/spring cleaning often involves a thorough appliance cleaning. You will save money in the long run because you will not have to have your appliances serviced or replaced. Remember to vacuum the coils of your refrigeator, vacuum out the vent both front and back. Clean the washer and clean any filters it may have. It is called preventive maintenance and it can save you money and time.

7. Clean under and behind furniture and appliaces. Vaccuum under the refrigerator, stove, and any other appliaces. Be sure to clean and disinfect your trash cans. Do not just change the bags. Actually clean the inside and outside of the trash receptables. You will be glad you did.
