So I began my fall to-do series this week…right. And although I intended to begin outside, you guys understand that when you run into a bargain, you have to move. I had one of those afternoons when I had more time than money and I was perusing A.C. Moore. A very dangerous store for a DIYer…right? Well I tried to outsmart myself and I left my purse in the trunk of my car. The only money I had with me was $20.00 in my phone case. Whew…dodging the DIYer bullet with all I had.
Well low and behold on the fabric clearance table was this very nice stripped fabric. It was priced two yards for $5.00 and even more amazing was the fact that there was more than one bundle. As a matter of fact, there were 4 bundles. I touched it and thought, it’s not heavy enough for what I want, but the more I walked around that store, the more I realized I was not walking out without that fabric.
With my Fall-to-do series in mind, I purchased the fabric for a project that I actually had on my winter to-do list. But hey we take it where we can get it…right? So below you will see that I bought the fabric and recovered the chairs in my breakfast area. My breakfast area is actually a round Tuscan-styled glass top table that sits in front of a lovely bay window. I spend a lot of time in that space. Also, it has to look decent because it’s at the front our house. At least that’s what I told myself in order to purchase that fabric. J I bought the set long before the genesis of blogging in my life and believe it or not, the chairs began their life with white fabric. I loved the table and chairs but I knew white was not conducive to my family dynamic. So at first I covered them with the green micro-suede. It worked well for the past 5 years. But I have since changed a lot of things in the house and I was ready for a cushion change as well.
Although the fabric wasn’t as heavy as I would have liked, I decided to spray it heavily with Scotch Guard and take my chances. And I did and I’m very happy with the results. Please let me know what you think. And feel free to ask any questions you may have about the process.

I think the chairs came out beautifully! I am still mystified as to the process (how-to books and videos I’ve seen skip several important steps), but that came out wonderfully. I love the scotch guard touch! 🙂
Thanks Vanessa. It’s really simple. Maybe I’ll write a tutorial or something sometime. It saves a lot of money and gives you some redesign freedom. 🙂
