Spring Surprises All Around

We had the most beautiful spring weather last weekend. Hubs and I had a couple of errands to run on Saturday and had planned on an early lunch after our errands and to be back at home by noon. However; once we were out and about, we could not seem to reel ourselves back in. We chuckled when I I said I felt like a high schooler with spring fever. It’s been many moons since I was a high schooler but I’m sure you get my drift. I just could not force myself to spend that beautiful day in the house cleaning or sitting behind my laptop writing. So we played hooky instead and I found some really good bargains in the process.

Spring

While out riding we noticed all of the early bloomers. In our area, the Bradford Pear trees are in full bloom (too early) and they are gorgeous. There are even some Dogwood trees in bloom as well. But my favorite spring flowers, the Daffodils, are in full bloom all over the place. I love daffodils. They are always planted so randomly. You can find a patch over here under a tree or over there in the middle of a round-a-bout.You can see them blooming by the side of highways in field-like formation but my favorite way to spot daffodils is randomly placed like little surprises. I call them little spring surprises because you never know where you will find one. I planted some last year and I think the squirrels ate my bulbs because I didn’t get any. Oh well, I will try again this fall.

Spring

So back to Saturday. After we ran our errands, we decided to pop into a couple of our/my favorite shops. We needed a few things and Target was on our errand list anyway so while we were there I stopped in their dollar section. You can always find such good stuff there. I ended up picking up the 2 spring bunnies. They are adorable and they were only $3.00 each. I could not pass them up. Can you see the gold in their ears? That is such a nice touch. A little bling for spring.

Spring

Spring

I thought they were so cute. And there is a place for candy or a small succulent or other plant or perhaps a candle. So many possibilities. I really want a large bunny with a basket but I know I will have to visit Pier 1 for something like that so for now, my $3.00 bunnies are just fine.

Spring

Our next stop was dollar general. That is the best place to buy baby oil. I’ll save that for another post. But I was out of baby oil so we stopped in. Of course, they were all decked out for spring too but I was on a mission in this particular store. Baby oil and out. Well on my way to the baby oil I spotted the Love Hope sign. I thought it was cute and perfect for my office.  So I picked it up and we were out the door.

Spring

I think it is very cute. I may add white polka dots to help it to appear brighter. Not sure yet. What do you think? Should I add the polka dots to the Love Hope plaque? Did I mention it was only $4.00?

Next stop, Ollie’s I had not been there in ages. Time-out…I just have to say that Ollie’s has the best music piped into their stores. They know how to get you in and to keep you in so you spend more dollars. 🙂 Hubs and I were practically dancing down the isles and so were a lot of other people. The one thing I do not like about Ollies is the exact thing I love about Ollies. The store has some of the most unique items ever. However, they do not stock items for very long and you may see something you love there today but if you don’t pick it up, it could be gone tomorrow. So sometimes you feel pressured into getting something you like because you know it may not be here if you wait until tomorrow.

While there I picked up these really nice solar lights. I loved the detail. The pictures do not do them justice, however, the colors are beautiful and they have a sort of Tuscan look to me. The tops are bronzed and the colors of the painted details are burgundy, with greens and a beautiful tone of beige. I love them and what I truly love is the price – $2.99 each. I want to go back to get two or three more and I had better hurry because we all know how Ollie’s rolls. 🙂

I also found some really pretty lilies at Ollie’s as well. Yes, they are fake but they look so real and the bunches are really thick.

Spring

They look real and the detail is right on. I was surprised to find these at Ollie’s, but you never know what you will find there. And again, the price was great, $1.99 a bunch and as I said the bunches are thick. SpringSpringLook at the detail Simply beautiful! I have plans for these. Stay tuned to see them again.

SpringFinally, our last stop was the Raleigh Flea Market. Let me preference this by saying all we bought from the flea market was some good popcorn that we shared while we walked around. But I did find this piece. Now I realize it is very primitive and I love rustic, but I could not decide if it were a bit too primitive for my home. It is solid wood and the artisan does custom orders.  I have been on the look-out for a dresser to upcycle as a TV console but I have not run across anything. This piece will house all of our electronics with room to spare. I am working on designing a piece that has the barn doors (my favorite) but is not quite as primitive as this piece. The barn door makes this piece unique but if I have him custome make one for me, I want it to be a bit less primitive, I think.

So that was our spring day. We did stop for lunch in the midst of all of those stops. Big juicy hamburgers and fries. Yum!  It was a pleasant day and we spent very little. The fun was being with hubs, in the beautiful weather and visiting the spots I love. That is what spring is all about. Stay tuned to see how I use the things I purchased.

Thank you Carol. I went back yesterday after work and picked up a few more of the flowers. I couldn’t resist. I haven’t a clue where I will use them but I’m certain that once I pull out the spring stuff it will come to me. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by.

Cute finds! I like the lilies and the solar lights! Yes, put some polka dots on the Love and Hope plaque. Instead of painting you could use your Cricut machine to cut out the circles. Do a couple of different sizes :)I enjoy going to Ollie’s myself. Thank you Clearissa for sharing this post at the #WednesdayAIM #LinkUp #BlogParty. I shared it on social media.

Hi Dee. Thank you for stopping by. Good idea to use my Cricut to make the circles. That would give me some much-needed practice. 🙂 I stopped in again on Wednesday to hopefully find more of the lilies and I was surprised that there were 2 bunches left. Things go so quickly there but they had a complete new arrangement of the large flower pots. The really really pretty decorative ones that you see outside office building. I left quickly before I spent money I had not intended to spend. See you next Wednesday. 🙂

Hi Rachel, the same goes here. Everything is budding. But we are supposed to get a hard freeze tonight. That will hurt all of the budding plants. I hope the weatherman is wrong this time. 🙂

Hi Lori. Thank you. It was a very nice day. I like the lights as well. I went back on Tuesday to get a couple more but there were gone. But I thought they might be, that how Ollie’s works. Here today gone tomorrow. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by. I hope you will again.

    Hi Audrey,

Thank you for stopping in. Yes, I did find a few goodies. I absolutely love that console. I’m thinking I could make it work too. But as I said, the artisan does take custom orders so perhaps I will try my hand at designing one just for me. We’ll see how that works out. 🙂 Again, thank you for stopping in and I hope you will again.

I am also a fan of the would-be TV console. A piece you design with barn doors, however, would be even more fun.

I’m not much of a Spring decor person but I am staring at my mess of a garden deciding what we can do now that California’s drought conditions aren’t as severe.

What a fun and lovely day you had. 🙂 I have to say I am not a big fan of Ollies, but after seeing those solar lights I may have to stop in. That was a great score!
I adore the cabinet as well, that would be a perfect gardening table. I really need to find a way to organize my pots and planters with enough workspace to move around. That would have been perfect!
    Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

Hi Dana, spring and fall are actually my favorite seasons to decorate for. I have to decorate for Christmas but there is always the thought in my head that I will have to take it down shortly. But spring can roll into summer with just a few tweaks and fall into winter the same way. Just a few tweeks. Other than my roses and azaleas and bulbs, my gardening is mainly pots but I see stuff coming up and it really gets me in the mood for my favorite season. Enjoy your California garden and thank you for stopping by. I hope you will again.

Hi Tracy. You’re right the cabinet would be a great gardening table as well. Especially if you’re handy and can make it yourself. I don’t think I would pay this guys prices and put it outside, but it would be perfect especially in a covered area. I agree Ollie’s is sometimes hit or miss. Some days there is nothing there that interests me but other days I can find a treasure and they always have a great book section. That is where I get my grandson’s books most of the time. Thank you for stopping in. I hope you will visit again. 🙂

Hi Haley. I love it too. I am into the Farmhouse style too. Just incorporating it though and that is very rustic. But I have not ruled it out. 🙂 As always…Thanks for stopping by.
